Wellington v. Hawke's Bay.
RAIN INTERFERES WITH THE GAME. [By Telegraph] ( Per Press Association.) Wellington, This clay. The cricket match between the above teams began at 11.20, the weather being windy and dusty. After half an hours' play rain set in. Hawke's 1 Bay won the toss and went in. The Wellington is weak in bowling, five of the brai men being absent. Lusk and Staite carried the .score to 26, when the former was caught behind the wickets, Bruce, the newcomer, immediately shared a similar fate. Gore started scoring freely, but at 37 Staite was run out. At noon the score was three wickets for 52 runs. The scores being : Lnsk, c Levers, b Holdsworth ... 16 Staite run out ... ... ... 11 Brace, c Levers, b Holdsworth ... 0 Gore, not out ... ... ... 12 Canning, not out ... ... ... G Extras ... ... ... 7 Total three wickets ... 52 Later, 1.30 p.m. Showers drenched the ground and put an end to further play until after lunch. The score stands three wickets for 59. Gore {not out) 13 ; Canning (not out) 12. The weather promises to be showery all the afternoon.
