A TERRIBLE TRAGEDY.

A horrible affair is reported from Laon, in France. A retired army sergeant Chedeville suddenly went mad, and strangled his wife and tw r o children at the small farm where they lived. After committing the crime he carried the bodies up into the garret. He then collected his few cattle and horses, and locked them in the farm kitchen, and, having soaked some of his furniture with petroleum, ignited it and set the place on fire. He then mounted to the gariet, and hanged himself by the bodies of his wife and children. The charred remains of the murderer and his victims were ultimately recovered.
