A deputation of local volunteer officers waited 011 the Defence Minister this morning, urging Government assistance in sending a team of riflemen to Bisley. The deputation suggested that the Government grant £ for £ subscribed by the public. The Hon. Mr Thompson said he personally favored the project, but the question was one which would be considered by the Cabinet on the return of the Premier. He understood that the amount necessary to send Wellington representatives had already been guaranteed. Dunedin, This day. Two young men named Anderson and Norfchey have been arrested in connection with serious burglaries and remanded for a week. Ciiristchcrch, This day. At the S.M. Court this morning several persons were fined in various sums for breaches of the Factories and Shop Assistants Act. A. J. Kelly, licensee of the Islington Arms Hotel was charged with having kept spirits for sale containing more water than is allowed by law. The magistrate said the offence appeared a menial one, though defined by the act as adulteration. Putting a little too much water in liquor was very different from introducing deleterious ingredients. Fined us, costs 28s.
