London, Feb. 21
A telegram from Moscow states that the report of the death of Steinitz, the chess player, is untrue, lie remains very ill in the hospital. A strike of railway employes has occurred at the chief stations on the North-eastern line. The difficulty arose in the goods department, and the men employed on the passenger lines are highly affected. The amalgamated engineers and blacksmiths have withdrawn from the shipbuilding yards in the Newcastle district, the conference of masters and men having failed to arrive at a settlement. The Jarrahdale Company, Western Australia, has contracted to supply 110 loads of blocks for the wood blocking of I'rian-street, Paddington. The contract price is L'lo 19s per load . The steamer Orotava, which recently capsized at Tilbury, is ashore on the Scylla shoal, Perim. at the entrance to the Red Sea. The crew and passengers are all well. Assistance has been sent with a view to floating the steamer.
