Later particulars of the wreck of the troopship Warren Hastings on the island of Reunion show that the disaster occurred on a dark and stormy night. After the vessel struck the crew succeeded in getting a rope ashore, along which those who could not swim safely passed until the ship was about to capsize. All the swimmers were then ordered to jump overboard and make for the -bore. Splendid discipline was maintained amongst the troops. All were rescued except tfvo natives.
