Mr Edmund Byrne, Q.C., the Conservative member for W althamstow, succeeds Sir Joseph C bitty as one of the Judges of the Chancery division. The ceremony of confirming Dr. Mandell Creigliton as Bishop of London was conducted yesterday in the Church of St. Mary s-le-liow, Cheapside. During the proceeding a scene was created by a layman rising from among the audience and protesting against the confirmation on the grounds that Dr. Creigbton was a Ritualist. Professor Sylvamis Thompson, F.R.A.S., the eminent electrician, exexpresses the opinion that by the adoption of new methods it is possible to despatch 70 words a minute over a single Pacific cable at a small extra cost. Pakis, Jan. 15. M. Meline, Premier, proposes to introduce a bill into the Chamber of Deputies dealing with the marking of imported frozen meat.
