THE MELBOURNE MURDER.
AN OLD EMPLOYEE ARRESTED
SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES

Melbourne, This day. William Phillips, aged nineteen, arrested on suspicion of murdering Brady, was recently discharged from Cooper and Sons employ. Brady discovered that he had embezzled a sum of money. It is alleged the accused arranged to meet Brady at 10 o'clock on Tuesday night. He admits he called at the shop, but finding the door locked went away. The police ascertained Phillips purchased a revolver and cartridges on Monday night which he posted to his brother in the country next morning. Spots of blood were found on Phillips' clothing, and a quantity of stock is alleged to have been stolen, which the police also found in his possession. He denies any connection with the murder.
