SERIOUS COMPLICATION ARISING.
A DENIAL BY THE ENGINEERS' SECRETARY.
IVeN.N A»*">-ioti»u —' "'iji'/ridht.) Sydney, Jan. 7. The question of the engagement of lion-unionists in connection with the engineers' difficulty was under conbide ration to day. A meeting of the Shipowners Association drafted certain proposals in view of arriving at a compromise and forwarded them to the Engineers' Association, who are now discussing them. Important developments are expected to take |.lae. to-night. The engineers have been called out of the Adelaide Company's Franklin and H'lddart-Parker's Anglian, which were to have sailed to-day. The engineer-' executive authori -ed all it- members to return to their steane-rs excepting tho-e of th.» Adelaide Company and Hnddart Parker. The Shipowners' Association thereupon held a meeting and decided to stand by Huddurt Parker and refuse to engage any engineer-' on -ti-ikc un!esthey abided by the compromise arrived at in Sydney, and allowi d the matter to W settled at a eoiifereliee.
