A BELICOSE ATTITUDE.
THE AMERICANS DESIRE A CONTEST WITH SPAIN. (Per I'reus Aixoriatinn—t 'n/ii/rii/ht.) Washington, Dec. 18. The Foreign Committee of the Senate, ignoring the counsel of Mr Olney, Secretary of State, for moderation, passed a joint resolution recognising the autonomy of Cuba and that they should negotiate with Spain for peace. New York stocks dropped live points in two hours. Many Governors of States telegraphed their readiness to raise volunteers if the resolution was adopted by Congress. It is expected that President Cleveland will veto the resolution. Dec. 20. Mr Olney, states that unless the Executive officially declares its decision the revised resolution respecting Cuba does not alter America's attitude.
