A Nautical Inquiry.

- - ADJOURNED TILL SATURDAY. [By Temxhupii.] (Pit I 'r. ss Axxociation.) Wivl.mxotox, This day. A Magisterial Inquiry into the alleged striking of the Takapuna on a reef near Alligator Point while on the passage to Nelson a few days ago was held this morning. Captain Grant said at first he thought the vessel touched, but on seeing her on the slip he was certain she did not. The second officer, who was on the watch, said he thought the vessel touched. The evidence of the diver who examined the vessel's bottom was against the theory that the vessel had struck. The inquiry was adjourned till Saturday for argument on legal points as to the jurisdiction of the Court under " The Shipping and Seamen's Act, 1877."
