(/'-■/■ /VAt the Auckland Supreme Court sessions yesterday W. Andrew .S lattery was charged with stealing by a mining transition, and acquitted. Nothing further has been heard of the missing schooner Tikitinonu, which left Karatonga 011 .Tune 22nd for Penrhyn Island. It is almost certain that the ill-fated vessel was lost at sea. The second char go of theft against Wilkes, ex-house steward at the Wellington hospital, was withdrawn on the ground that it was practically the same as the charge 011 which he was acquitted. A ten-roomed house at .Tohnsonville, occupied by John Waters, was destroyed by lire. The second trial of Mr Ann Suyer for malpractice at Masterton occupied the Supreme Court all yesterday forenoon, and at 10.10 pan. the jury returned with a verdict of not guilty. The Chief Ju-tice in discharging accused administered a word of caution otherwise, he said, accused may at some time find herself charged with murder. A large number of Palmerston school children left in a special train yesterday to attend the Wellington Exhibition. On the return journey, and when approaching Palmerston North, a lad named I'errins, about 12 years of age, fell off the train and had both legs almost severed. lie was taken to the Palmerston hospital. The authorities state that one condition of the special train was that an adult should be in charge of each department, and that no children be allowed on the platform. llow the accident happened is unknown.
