News has been received from Cape Town that Lord Kosemead (Sir Hercules Robinson) is ill, ;uul it is re-ported that his condition is so serious that it causes great anxiety to his friends. The New Zealand hemp market remains steady with prices unchanged. Co.VSTA.VTINOPJ.F., Nov. 26. The Sultan is said to be delighted at the failure of the French scheme for placing the Porte's iinances under European control. MKLIIOI KXK, NOV. 27. A conference of representative's of country municipalities to consider the Constitution Amendment Act resolved to petition the Legislative Council to reject the bill. Strong objection was raised to giving women a note. It was stated that 90 per cent of the women had nothing to lie responsible for, and there was not ;">OOO respectable women who wanted to vote ; there were simply a few who v. ere always whining about the sins of the world, and these wanted a vote for the special purpose of legislation for a shifting and shiftless population, including women who under the proposed enfranchise would become the denominating power in the legislation ; thin a most irresponsible section of the community would have a preponderance of Parliamentary power in their hands. The new departure, it wa< thought, would be mischievous and against the interests of the ratepayers and producers. A proposal to give one vote for manhood suffrage, another for thrift, and confine womanhood suffrage to woman ratepayers, was largely supported. Cameron, who confessed to forging a will, and another witness in the same case named Cracknell, have been convicted and sentenced to live years' imprisonment each. SV!>\I:Y, Nov. 27.
