Mr Fraser at Clive.
Last night the Public Hall at Clive was packed to the doors by those who had come to hear the address of Mr Fraser, the Liberal candidate, a large number of ladies being present. Mr Geo. Merritt was voted to the chair. Mr Fraser prefaced his address by a scathing criticism of the reports furnished by the Opposition papers. The apology demanded by the Herald and Telegraph was served up hot and strong. The speaker dealt with all the principal questions of the day, the Lands for Settlement was fully dealt with, Advances to Settlers, Hanking Legislation, Prohibition, Custom Duties, and a visit to Elsthorpe Settlement were reviewed in an able manner, Mr Fraser supporting- his statements by chapter and vor.se. A most amusing sketch of the unholy alliance in which Sir Robert Stout's parliamentary career was briefly dealt with was given. The address occupied two hours", and the speaker had his audience with him from start to iinish. It was conceded on all sides that it was the most able and interesting address ever delivered in Clive. A vote of thanks and confidence in Mr Fraser was carried by acclamation (only two voted against 1 ). A vote of thanks to the chair concluded a splendid meeting. Three ringing cheers were given for Mr Fraser. The only question was asked by Mr Fail, which was satisfactory answered.
