DELL ON TRIAL. A GOVERNMENT SPY GIVES EVIDENCE. L««nim>N\ NOV. 14. Bell, om* of the dynamiter Tynan's associates, who was arrested in Glasgow, was charge*! at Bow-street to-day with having contravened the fifth section of the Explosive Substance* Act. 1»78-
A Government spy, in his evidence, made some astounding revelations. He declared that the prisoner had attended secret meetings of Irishmen in Hew York, and had joined in a plot against England. The spy, who joined the I'nited Irishmen, states thai Carney, Tynan, Lyman and IVII were prominent officers of the secret association. lie revealed the secrets and passwords and forwarded documents to the British Government. The object of the society, he declared, was to establish an Irish republic by means of a revolution, and large sums of money were collected to educate dyua uiitera to assist in outrages. At one meeting there were 600 delegates'. Two Australians attended the Chicago convention in Ix9o. Bell, it is said, became acquainted with Tynan in 18*2. The Government spy formed a camp in New York, and enrolled Mearns and Golan, who were concerned in an explosion m Dublin. Bell has been committed for trial.
