At a meeting of the Auckland Trades and Labor C mn.-ii. Mr-I. Fawcus presiding. a<l i~ >:~-ii>11 took place on the wages paid to City Council workmen, employ.' - in local sawmills. and others. It was stated the C ry Council laborers were paid (is a day and yard-men in the mills ">s. out of which many of them had to support a family. The general opinion of the Council was that the wages of the-e men ought to be increased in consequence of the rise of rents and the increase of pay in other callings.
