NAPIER NOTES.

[From Our Own Correspondent.] Napike, October HO. Two Port residents who have been away on a trip to England and Scotland have returned, looking the better for the change Mr C. Heald, statiomnaster at the Spit, who has enjoyed six months furlough, has returned to his duties, and Mr McVicar, engineer of the North British Freezing works, also signed on again yesterday after an absence of some months. The livery stables of Mr Palmer which were recently destroyed by lire have been replaced by an elegant, roomy, and comfortable structure in brick, which is a credit to architect, builders, and all concerned. The shooting of the Napier MartiniHenry Ritle Club for the New Zealand Ififle Association's bronze medal has resulted in a win for Mr E. Humphries with a total of f>6 points, Mr G. liobson being second with ;">5 points, and Mr A. A. Kennedy third with i>4. Mr J. Pore with a handicap of 16 won Mr L. De Pelichet's trophv with a total of S>o at 200. 500, and 600 yds, Messrs E. Humphries (scratch), C. W. Cato 10 points, and H. D. Brewer 15 points, with scores of 86 each being the next best. Your announcement that the Rev. Dr. Hosking will be a candidate for Hawke's Bav failing another candidate is not received seriously here, as it is not considered that the doctor has any of those qualities which go to make a politician. Besides he would make the Hansard staff so tired !
