Fire at Clive.

{From Our <hrn Correspondent.')

Clive, Oct. 19. A fire broke out at a quarter to three yesterday morning in a two-storied building adjoining the West Clive Hotel. It was owned by Mr Heron of Napier, and occupied by Mr Jourdine. The members of the Clive Bucket Brigade were quickly on the spot, foremost amongst them being Messrs ■Jourdine, Cheer and Caldwell, and by their efforts, assisted by a score of others, Clive was saved' from being wiped out. Mr Beck's store, some fifteen foot from the lire, was badly scorched, but owing to the exertions of those mentioned above it was saved. Nothing is known as to the origin of the fire. It is understood that Mr Jourdine was insured for £7O and that Mr Heron had the building insured, but for what amount it is not known.
