Londdn, Oct. 17. There was a large assemblage at the funeral of Dr Benson. The Puke cf York represented the Queen, who sent a wreath marked " With greatest regard, friendship, and affection." The Emperor of Germany, the Prince of Wales, and the Duke of Edinburgh were among those who sent floral tributes. The export of gold to America continues. Oct. 18. The Himalaya's shipment of butter has arrived in good condition, and good prices are expected, as Danish is selling at 1255. Sir W r . Vernon Harcourt, in a letter expresses regret at Lord Rosebery's resignation and denounces the newspapers for accusing him of hostility towards that amiable and distinguished statesman. Geake, the defaulting Victorian solicitor, has arrived in custody at Plymouth from Mount Video. The sum of £1,700,000 in gold was shipped to America last week, making a total of eight and a half millions since the draw began. Berlin, Oct. 18. It is reported that the Emperor William, disguised, witnessed the Czar's reception at Paris. St. Peterburgh, Oct. 18. The Czar has given the Princess Helene of Montenegro, who is betrothed to the Prince of Naples, a dowry of a million rubles and diamonds to the value of two million francs. Washington, Oct. 17. Mr Bayard, American Ambassador to England, denounces the Republican silver democrats, and urges the election of General Palmer as president. Calcutta, Oct. 17. One of the tribes near the Afghan frontier has been troublesome of late, and has taken to injuring the Quetta railway line. Troops have been sehfc to disperse them. Cairo, Oct. 17. It is estimated that the cost of the Dongola expedition is £GoO,OOO. Lord Cromer, referring to the conquest of Khartoum, expects it to be effected at no distant date.
