Hastings S.M. Court.

(Before W. Beilby & J. Arnott, J.P.'s

At the S.M. Court this morning the following cases were dealt with : _ Walter White was charged with having cattle that were caught wandering on the streets, and it being his first offence he was convicted and discharged. A charge of cruelty to animals against W. Rhodes was dismissed, there being no appearance of the prosecutor (J. Nagle). Oliver Mosen was ordered to register a dog within 48 hours or stand the consequences. Albert Moore was called upon to contribute to the revenue 10s and 7s costs for riding a bicycle at night without the regulation light. Thos. Jones and Richard Matthews appeared to answer a charge of disturbing a public entertainment, to wit an open night of the Star of Hope Lodge. Messrs W. W. Adams, Graham, and H. Guthrie gave evidence that the defendants had not behaved as they should have done on thai occasion, and the Bench fined them each 10s and costs 13s with witnesses' expenses 18s. A charge against John Berry for loitering on a footpath and obstructing traffic was adjourned until October 29thTuniu Minnika, for driving round a corner at other than a walking pace, was fined os and costs 7s. George Harper, for leaping on to a train while in motion, was mulcted in qs v costs 7s. and witnesses' expenses 7s. Mr Morrow appeared for defendant.
