School Inspector Airev is dead. lie took inflammation of the throat when holding a standard examination at Takapuna school. A sad boating- fatality occurred on the Wairoa river on Sunday. Five persons were sailing when the boat capsized, three being drowned and two getting ashore safely. The drowned people were Mr Mead, his wife, and little child. At Wanganui yesterday morning, a ten-roomed house was burned to the ground. The immates had a narrow escape, and only got out with their night clothes. The house was owned by Mr W. Aiken, seuier, and occupied by Mrs Kiernan. It was used as a boarding house. Not an article of furniture was saved. The house was ineared for £330 in the Norwich Union office, and the furniture in the NewZealand for £3OO. A youth named Henry Carpenter, aged 13, was accidentally shot at Crofton yesterday. The case is hopeless.
