GENERAL ITEMS. Sydney, This day. There was an immense gathering at the Eight Honrs Day demonstration yesterday, and the affair passed off very successfully. Pekth, This day. A pleasure boat capsized in Swan River, by which a man named MePherson, his wife, anil two young children were drowned. Mei.bocrxe, This day. TheDevonport arrived from Kaipara. She encountered a series of severe gales and had to heave to. She shipped a lot of water through the hatch becoming displaced. Her rails were smashed and the deck fittings washed away. Adelaide, This day. Benjamin Gould, ex-Grand Secretary of the Druids, until recently Mayor of Hindmarsh, and at one time member of Parliament, has been sentenced to four years for embezzling £572 of the Druids' fund.
