NAPIER NOTES.

[Fbom Our Own Correspondent. ] Napier, September 80. There are ten more entries for the Agricultural and Pastoral Show this year than last. In 1895 138 horses, 49 cattle, and 228 sheep were shown. This year the entries under these heads are 148, 65, and 205 respectively, or a total of 418. The City Band gave a concert last night in Clive Square to commemorate the Queen's record breaking reign. Truly this is a record breaking era. I am informed that at the conclusion of the meeting of the Scinde Lodge last night, the toast of the Queen honored with enthusiasm. Considering that it was an ordinary " dry night" it is puzzling to know in what form the " toasting " was done. Anyhow the brethen had no difficulty in singing " God Save the Queen" afterwards. The Hawke's Bay Lawn Tennis Club held its annual meeting last night, when the following officers were elected President, Mr A. J. Cotterill; vice-presidents, Messrs R. B. Smith and E. R. C. Bowen; honorary secretary, Mr A. H. Todd; honorary treasurer, Mr F. G. Hartley; committee, Messrs CarUle, Cato, Watkins, Barron, Kennedy, Anderson, Macfarlane, Dakin, Hutchings, and Pavitt. At a meeting of the Wanderers Bicycle Club last night, it was decided to close the entries for the thirty-mile road race in a week's time. A special club run out to the A. and P. Society's show at Hastings was arranged for the 9th October. The club will also run out to Crissoge at shearing time. The following new members were elected: Mrs Mceller, Misses Watson, Balfour, and Cohen, Messrs W. B. Ferguson, A. Norris, anil J. A. Ross. Mr A. S. Pirani, a well-known telegraph operator, was married to Miss Annie Bee, daughter of Mr Geo. Bee, of Waterlea, Papakura, at PakQwhai yesterday, in the presence of a large assemblage. The Rev. W. Welsh performed the ceremony. connection with his marriage, Mr Pirani was presenting with a very handsome clock and writing desk by his confreres in the telegraph office. At a meeting of the Hawke's Bay Athletic Association last night Mr Rudman resigned the secretaryship, and Mr J. H. Swan is to be asked to take the position. A number of new mem* ben were ©looted.
