THE SULTAN IRRITATING THE POPULACE. A NEWSPAPER REBUFF TO MR GLADSTONE. Constantinople, Sept. 23. The Porte, by exhibiting the arms and dynamite discovered in the Armenian quarters is inflaming large crowds, Paris, Sept. 23. Replying to Mr Gladstone's letter to the French people, in which the hope was expressed that French action with regard to reforms in Turkey would be worthy of the place of that country in Christian history*, the Journal des Debats states that France will act with Europe in maintaining the integrity of the Ottoman Empire.
