NAPIER NOTES.

[Fkom Oue Own Correspondent.] Napier, September 22. The Napier Amateur Dramatic Club is again on the "vvarpafch, and intend to produce " The Schoolmistress," one of Pinero's compositions, in November in aid of the funds of the Operatic Society, and the Amateur Athletic Club. The dramatis perzona have been selected and are as follows: —Hon. De Yere Queckett, Mr W. Davidson; Admiral Rankling, Mr J. G. Swan ; Lieutenant Mallory, Mr H. R. Morton ; Mr Saunders, Mr Jackson ; Otto Blentstein, Mr H. Swan ; Tyler, Mr J. G. Hughes ; Goff, Mr W. Reid ; Jaffey, Mr S. Jago; Miss Dyott (School Mistress), Miss Hitchings'; Peggy Heselrigge, Miss Una Hitchings; Ermyntrude Johnson, Miss Bendall (of Wellington) ; Dinah Rankling, Miss Kennell; Mrs Rankling, Miss Ringwood ; Jane, Mrs H. R. Morton ; Gwendoline Hawkins, Miss Kyle. The part of Reginald Pauloker has yet to be filled. The Excelsior Recreation Club held a social last night. There -was a large attendance and a splendid gymnastic display was given by the members and interspersed by vocal and instrumental selections by local amateurs. Competition trophies were won by Messrs H. V. Bear and H. Lang (seniors), and M. Cuthbert and A. J. Poeock (juniors), and the Chairman also presented a gold albert to Mr Fenton who has acted as honorary instructor to the club for some time past. At the Diocesan sitting yesterday afternoon, Mr Fraser, on behalf of Mr Fitzßoy, moved to amend several clauses and sections of a canon to allow women to vote at parish meetings. The matter was discussed at some length, but the motion was declared lost. Mr Hill moved, seconded by Mr Tanner and carried, That a return be made setting forth the names of ministers who have applied to school committees during the past year for permission to give Bible instruction to schools. A motion of the Rev. A. F. Gardiner was also carried urging the members of the church in the diocese to take a fuller share in the mission work of the church.
