THE ARMENIAN QUESTION.
A TERRIBLE PANIC
THE SULTAN ALARMED
Constantinople, Sept. 17
The Saltan expresses surprise at the blind rage of the English newspapers, and denies that he is misusing the Armenians. On the other hand, he retorts that many of the Moslems have sought refuge in Turkey to escape the ill-usage of the Christians. The accidental breaking of a quantity of glass caused a terrible panic in Galafca and Pera. Every shop was shut up and houses barricaded. Hearing that an attempt was about to be made to crown his younger brother Sultan, the latter suddenly replaced an Albanian with a Zouave guard ai Yeldiz Palace.
