THE NATIONAL CONVENTION.

OPENING THE PROCEEDINGS. NECESSARY TO CLOSE THE BROKEN RANKS. London, September 2. Two thousand delegates attended the National Convention in Dublin. His Holiness the Pope sent his blessing, and prayers were offered that the dissension among the party would end. Bishop O'Donnell, of Raphoe, County Donegal, presided. The supporters of Mr Tim Healy were absent, and the hierarchy display ~ few signs of sympathy with them. W Archbishop Walsh wrote to the Convention that it was imperative to close the broken ranks of the Irish party. The Bishop of Raphoe denounced as monstrous the wrong revealed in the financial relations between Ireland and England. He said the M'Carthy partly would gladly welcome the Parnellites if they recognised that the majority must rule.
