London, August 81. J The Australians began a match aflL Scarborough to-day against a team got together by Mr C. I. Thornton, and was composed of: —L. Paliariefc, Smith, Jackson (captain), Wynyard, T. O'Brien, Peel, Davidson, Sharer, Brown, Tunmcliffe, and J. T. Hearne. " Eady, Johns, and Graham stand out of the Colonial team. The attendance is very large and the weather in fine, but the wicket is slow owing to the recent rains. The Home team won the toss, and went to the wickets, and at the adjournment had lost one wicket for 189 runs. Pallairet ... ... 71 Jackson, not out ... 60 Sydney, This day. So far no reply has been received from Mr Musgrove or the other members of the Australian Eleven ,io whom cables have been sent protesting against the New Zealand tour. Mr Garen, Chairman of the Cricket Council, who has full power of action is in favor of perpetual disqualifaction, but Associations of the colonies are rather apathetic in their support of the Council. That of New South Wales is most sympathetic but even here there are signs of weakness.
