Marriage in Armenia.
The marriage ceremony in Armenia is very simple. When two design to marry, the pastor must first ascertain that they who wish to marry are not relations. Then they send for the chief pastor, who takes two rings, one for the bride and the other for the bridegroom, and on the day of marriage they go to the church-gate, where he a-ks them whether they .w.::t ' siarry, and then he asks both * •• I)'> you intend to marry ?" 1" iv N»*h sf-vyos. Pastor s addressing h:;u i to the bridegroom i. says : ■* If tin wit\ -.litiulil become poor, or -ick. or lame, would you then a- m-r ' "Yes," and the bride answers a similar question in the same manner : and then they enter the church together with a witness: a Testament and a cross are given to both bride and bridegroom ; and then they pray. The pastor then reads the Bible and Testament, and a portion of the Prophets. After this, he ties a cord on each of their necks, of while and red color, which is sealed with sealing-wax; and they are not permitted to see each other for three days. After three days they come again to tbe church, where the pastor unseals them ; after this they live together in matrimonial bonds.
