LOSSES BY RINDERPEST. C'ape Town*, August 29. It is estimated that Khama has lost 80,000 head of cattle by rinderpest- and his people 500,000. The supplies at Fort Salisbury are becoming exhausted. August 30. Chief Gumbo says that the -white people are ruad not to see that the Matabele are merely temporising in order to obtain supplies,Jand gives it as his opinion that the offer to surrender is a mere pretence. Mr Rhodes' interview with the Indunas in the south-west Matoppo's has had no result, the chiefs being confident of their ability to resist the white troops.
