GENERAL ITEMS. Melbourne, August 27. At the sheep breeders' show the grand championship fell to the ram Nelson, by President, belonging to Mr James Gibson of Tasmania ; the grand ewe championship to Mr 8. M'Caughey of New South Wales.
Svdnky, August 27. The feeling in cricket circles, though opposed to rebellion against the Cricket Council, favors the change. It is considered that if the dates were altered and the New Zealand Association then applied to the Council for a visit from the team, there is very little likelihood indeed of the request being refused. Adelaide, August 27. "Mr Cresswell, secretary of the Cricket Council, has cabled to Mr Musgrove that the Council expects the team to return by the end of November. The courtesy of a reply is requested. Brisbane, August 27. The Rev. John M'Neil, the wellknown Presbyterian evangelist from Victoria, died very suddenly to-day. The reverend gentleman had only just returned from a tour of Northern Queensland. August 28. The cyclists Don Walker, Martin (America), and McCombe, while attempting to lower records, had severe falls. Walker was badly injured in the side, but the others got off lightly.
