Sydney, August 25
A man named Ywlliam Rattray was arrested this afternoon on a charge of the theft of £37 at Coromandel, Thames. The man came by the steamer Tarawera, but managed to slip ashore unobserved. Detective Jones, however, captured him in the city later in the day and recovered £3O of the amount alleged to be stolen. Bi:isua:-;e, August 26. The population of the colony at the end of June was 407,972, an increase for the half vear of 742.
