GENERAL ITEMS. Auckland, August 20. The Northern Boot and Shoe Factory shows a profit for the year of £BO4 ' which, with the net balance brought forward from last year makes a total of £2BOI 9s 9d to the credit of the profit and loss account. The directors recommend payment of a dividend at the rate of o per cent per annum. The usual 10 per cent was written off the plant account for depreciation. The company's liabilities were reduced by £1264, and shew a total of £IO4B, which is the smallest amount recorded to date. The German warship Falke, which has been absent from this port about two years, arrived to day from Apia. New Plymouth, August 21. Petroleum is flowing gently from the well at Moturoa at the rate of about four barrels a day. Operations were suspended to-day on account of the absence of the directors. Shares in the company are changing hands at a premium. A private letter states that a sample of New Zealand cheese, of cubical shape, with upright edges rounded off, which arrived in London by the Kaikoura, attracted much favorable attention among experts, who suggested that a slight bulge given to the sides would be an improvement. The shape is the invention of Mr J. T. Lang, Government Dairy Inspector, and gives greater weight per ton measurement than the ordinary circular shape. DtTXEDix, August 21. James* M'Millan, aged 19 years, was killed at Milton as a result of injuries sustained while practising at the local gymnasium. A summons for the removal of Mr W. B. About September, 1891, plaintiff sold defendant shares in the Bank of New Zealand. Since then a of £3 Gs {jd had been made which plaintiff had to.pay and they sued for the amount with costs. Mr Carew, 53!., gave judgment for the defendant in both eases. Leave to appeal was granted.
