THE SITUATION IN CRETE.
THE CHRISTIANS DEFEAT THE TURKS. Athkns, August 18. Eight hundred Christians captured four guns, and the Turkish troops' supplies of food and cartridges, driving the Turks inside Heraklion. It is reported that fighting is proceeding at Apokorona, in the island of Zenedos. Pillage and burning are rampant in Candia. The mission of Lihin Pasha has prove* futile, as the Christians require complete autonomy.
