Six hundred and fifty-one deaths from sunstroke occurred in New York last week. Berlin, August 17. Thirty-nine German warships, including the largest ironclad in the navy, safely passed through the Wilhelm Canal in fifteen hours. General Bronsart von Scliellendorff, Prussian Minister of War, has resigned his position in the Kaiser's military cabinet. General Gossler succeeds him. Paris, August 17. The French Government proposes to expend £12,000,000 sterling in the reception and entertaining of the Czar and Czarina. Cairo, August 17. The "water in the Nile has so increased that the gunboats of the expeditionary force have been enabled to pass the second cataract.
