News has been received that the Inkoranzis and other tribes have combined with Samory, the great Mahomedan chief, with the object of expelling the British from Coomassie, the capital of Ashantee. H.M. warships Phoebe and Magpie, with a force of Accra Hussars, have sailed for Elmina, whence they march on Coomassie. August 14. Devoy, the dynamitard, not Brady, has been released. Russia and France have approved of the British decision against a blockade of Crete. The Kaiser is still considering the matter. The New Zealand Mineral Company, of £250,000, isissuing £IOO,OOO worth of ordinary shares and £IOOO of deferred shares. Mr Gollan's team of horses has been placed in the hands of H. E. Scott, the well known trainer at Lewes, Sussex, for preparation for their engagements. Obituary—Sir John Miliars, President of the Royal Academy, aged 67. Her Majesty the Queen and the Prince of Wales sent messages of condolence to his family. The American, German, and French papers refer to his death as a loss to art. New York, August 13. Mr Bryan, the Democratic representative, is touring New York in support of his candidature for the Presidency. Constantinople, August 14. A force of Turkish regulars and Kurds has been sent to Mosul to compel the Armenians who took refuge in the mountains to return. Two thousand A rmenians have taken refuge in the mountains in the vicinity of Mosul, in order to escape from a Khurdish raid on the province of Van. " Ottawa, August fl.
