Found Dead.
[From Our Own Correspondent]
Omahu, August 13
Another short act in the drama of life : On Wednesday evening the dead body of John Owen was found on the bank of the Okawa Creek by a Native girl who was on her way to set eel baskets.
The girl at once proceeded to the Okawa station and gave information to the proprietor, Mr T. 11. Lowry, and he at once notified the police at Taradale. In due course Constable Rutledge arrived and took charge of the body.
Yesterday the body was removed to the Fernhiil Hotel, where an inquest was held by Dr Spencer, acting Coroner, the following jury being duly sworn :—Messrs Joll, Moreland, Taylor, Kirkpatrick, Horsford, and Munroe. Mr 13. Joll was chosen foreman.
A post mortem examination was held by Dr Menzies, which show T ed that death was due to failure of the heart's action, exposure, and want of nourishment, a verdict being found accordingly. Constable Rutledge watched the proceedings on behalf of the police, evidence being given by Messrs Johnston (Okawa), Campbell (Ngapuke), Biscuit, Native (Omahu), and the girl who found the body.
