Gollan's horses by the Wai-ragal arrived in excellent condition. ■Judge 'Williams has unconditionally sanctioned the scheme of reconstruction of the Commercial Bank and ordered liquidation to be stopped. The House of Commons has approved of the personnel of the Chartered Company's enquiry committee. The Standard says the Government will retain the- value and limit of pasturage holdings in the Irish Land Bill. New York, August 12. Intense heat continues in the States, and on Monday 189 deaths were re : ported in Chicago, which is the highest ever recorded. Paris, August 11. The newspapers here contain grave news of brigandage and insecurity reigning in Madagascar. August 12. The Tunis police seized ten million forged frank notes and have effected several arrests. Rome, August 12. The Italian Government has demanded an inquiry into the lynching of three Italian prisoners at Habenville gaol, New Orleans.
