A Serious Charge.
AGAINST A WELL-KNOWN MEDICO. THE CHARGE DISMISSED. [By Telegraph.] [Special to Standard.] Wellington, this day. The charge brought by Mary Maher for indecent assault against Dr Cahill is creating a deal of interest, and the Court was well filled on Friday and Saturday, when evidence was adduced that when the complainant had called on the doctor to obtain a bill for services rendered to her sister he had assaulted her. Evidence was adduced at length in support of the charge. Dr Ewart's evidence, however, discounted the story of the girl. The case is not yet concluded. Later. The charge against Dr Cahill was dismissed on the grounds that there was not sufficient evidence for the jury to convict on. Mr Martin, however, said if the prosecution felt aggrieved he would bind the parties over to prosecute and Mr Olliver, counsel for the prosecution, declined to go to any further trouble. The decision was received with applause, and Dr Cahill was warmly cheered as he came out of court.
