PARLIAMENTARY NOTES.

IX HOUSE AND COUNCIL. [By Telegraph] (Fr»m our Sjwia! < '"rrenjumdent.) Wellington-, this day. On the whole there was nothing out of the common in yesterday's debate. The speeches were for the most part fairly good and surprisingly temperate, particularly in the case of the Minister of Lands, who made the best speech heard from him for some time. Mr Pirani, on behalf of the Left Wing, reiterated the preference of that party for the Government rather than the Opposition, and it now becomes farcical to keep the debate going. It is probable, however, that it will not finish till Wednesday, Ministers do not appear to be in a hurry to bring it to a close.
