AGAINST PLAYERS OF ENGLAND. HEAVY SCORING BY THE COLONIALS. London, July 9. At the end of the day's play the Australians had tost four wickets for 325. The following are the scores : Australians.—-Ist innings. Iredale, not out ... ... ... 154 Giffen, b Davidson ... ... 34 Darling, c Pougher, b Baker ... 70 Donnan, c Briggs, b Mead ... 4 Gregory, b Storer ... ... 46 Trott, not out 7 Extras 10 Total for 4 wickets ... 325 Pougher, Davidson, Briggs, Hearne, and Baker were tried in an endeavor to separate Iredale and Darling. Darling's score contained eleven 4's. The second wicket put on 68 runs in an hour, and the fourth 117 in an hour and a half. Gregory was bowled off his foot by Storer, who had given up the gloves to take the ball. Iredale was in splendid form, and never gave a chance, although he was at the wickets five hours. Owing to eight counties being engaged in regular matches the Players' team is by no means representative, none of the Yorkshire, Notts, and Surrey cracks being available. July 10. The Australians made 454 in their first innings, Iredale contributing 171, which included one 6 and twenty-two 4's. Graham and Trumble failed to score. Kelly made 25.
