It appears that a young fellow named Josiah Winton fell desparately in love with a half-caste at the Maori Pah, and asked her parents consent, which was refused, the girl being under age. He met the girl, and proposed to shoot her, then himself. She was not taking any, and told him so. When he saw her again lie was very much worse, and after he left her a report of a shot was heard, and he was picked up with a hole in his chest. Westport, June 11. The steamer Brunner canae into collision with the barque Marque Winkleman this morning while shifting her berth. The barque has sustained considerable damage, and men are being sent from Wellington to render assistance and effect repairs.

It is rumored that Williams, of Punt-din, is to be transferred to Wellington, ami replaced by Judge Edward*, There is no truth whatever in the report.
