THE OWNERS ULTIMATUM. MINES TO BE OPENED ON THE 20TH. Newcastle, July 10. Notices posted in the collieries announce the hewing rate fixed at 2s lid per ton while coal remains at- a selling price of 7s I'd per ton or under, with an advance of a penny for hewing for every threepence rise in the selling rate. Work must be resumed on the 20th and owners will only deal with individuals and not with unions. The mens' delegates recommend that deputations wait on the owners to more dearly define what is meant by individual employment.
