THE WOOL SALES. THE PACIFIC CABLE. - ANOTHER NEW ZEALAND MINE FLOATED. HEAVY FLOODS IN JAPAN. London, July 8. Competition at the wool sales for merino greasies is keen at current rates. The Pacific Cable Commission, in consequence of the pressure of business of its members, has been adjourned to October 26. July 9. The late Baron Hirsch's stallion Grafton has been sold to Mr Agar Wynne, of Victoria. Lincoln, a cyclist, accomplished a ride of 34 miles within the hour. The Maori Dream Gold Mining Company of New Zealand has been floated with a capital of £IOO,OOO, offering £70,000 in the open market. It has been recommended by the Producers Committeee of the House of Commons, that the sale of butter mixed with margarine be made illegal. New York, July 9. The Chicago Convention demands the immediate free coinage of silver at *a ratio of 16 to 1, and no waiting for other nations. Berlin, July 9. The German Press is excited over the report that Great Britain has purchased Italy's territory in Delagoa Bay giving access into the interior. Tokio, July 9. Three thousand houses have been destroyed owing to heavy floods. Ottawa, July 9. Sir Charles Tupper has resigned because the Governor-General refused to sanction a number of political appointments made by the Ministry when the result of the elections was made known.
