THE RECENT ENGAGEMENT. Cape Town, July 8. At the capture of Tesabas' stronghold, the Matabeie were armed with Lee-Mitford rifles, and fought desperately in defence of their stronghold. When driven across the Ingolunga they occupied a strong position among some granite kopjes. The first assault was repulsed, but Colonel Plummer persevered, and in the end the rebels were routed and dispersed in ali directions. July 9. The Mashona attack on Fort Salisbury was repulsed by 40 whites and 100 Zulus. The rebels lost 25. They burned Murendella. The Cape Government forwarded congratulations to Sir Hercules Robinson on his elevation to the peerage.
