NAPIER NOTES.
[From Ouk Own Correspondent.] Napiee, This Day. Last evening about church time the fire-bells rang out, and a blaze was discovered in the premises of Mr P. Gillespie, plumber and gasfitter, next door to the City Buffet, Emerson-street. The members of the fire-brigade were quickly on the spot, and what was thought would be a great conflagration was under command in a very short time. To the brigade is due every credit, and it is not too much to say that they are the smartest body of men in the colony, especially after their gallant display last night. Gillespie's premises were considerably damaged by fire and water. The insurances were £7OO on the building in the New Zealand Office, and £250 on the furniture in the Northern Assurance Office. The origin of the fire is a mystery, as the owner had gone to church, leaving everything all-right.
