A tobacco robbery took place last night at the premises of YV alter Lawlor, tobacconist, £l7 worth tobacco and cigarettes being taken. Wr.LLixiiTox, June 12. The warship Rapid, which left Napier on Sunday for Wellington, damaged a propellor, and H.M.S. Ringdove has departed to tow the disabled vessel into port. The Rapid is reported to be off Hat- Point under canvas. Herman, tobacconist and hairdresser, and Chris tense n, tobacconist, were fined 40s and 28s costs each on charges of keeping open Monday (Queen's Birthday) and also on V* cdnesday. Mr Martin, S.M., declined to accept a plea of ignorance of the law. Sir Robert Stout addressed a crowded meeting in the Opera House to-night. Replying to a question as fo whether he would support the Liberal Government under Mr Seddon or the Tories Tinder Captain Russell, he said he would do his best to oppose the present Government and oust them from the Benches. He received a vote of thanks and confidence, and three cheers were accorded him.

Bkuxnekton, June 12. The Magisterial inquiry into the !B runner disaster was resumed to-day before Mr Stratford, S.M. Mr Bishop, manager of the mine, was searehingly examined by Mr Bland, foreman of the jury. No new light has yet been thrown on the cause of the disaster.
