NAPIER NOTES.
[Feoii Oue Own Correspondent.]
Napier, This Day
The Supreme Court sittings open in Napier on the 10th insfc. Two Hastings eases are down for hearing : —Frederick Power and Alfred Petterson, assault and highway robberv, and William O'Neill for rape. A severe earthquake disturbed the residents of Napier about two o'clock this morning. Shorland, the cyclist, of Christchurch, will endeavor to break Fabian's record to Wellington. The local amateurs have everything in readiness for a big success in the " Scrap of Paper" at the Theatre Royal on Tuesday, 23rd June. I am told that the production will surpass anything of the kind hitherto taken up in the district.
There are people foolish enough to still consider Ivirby at large. They imagine that the arrest in Sydney is part of a very skilful plan, and that Ivirby was far too clever to allow himself to be captured as reported. A day or two should dispel the fallacy.
The Fort Ahuriri Fife and Dium Band hold a plain and fancy-dress ball in Stuart's Hall this evening, in aid of the band funds.
