THE MATABELE BEATEN AT EVERY POINT. BARNATO'S MINES REOPENING. DISQUIETUDE IN PRETORIA. THE PRESIDENT INCREASING HIS HOUSE GUARD. Capetown, May 27. Colonel Plimmer has dispersed 1000 Matabeles after two attacks, killing many of them. The attack was made with Imperial troops, and the natives were routed at all points. It is expected that a decisive engagement will take place shortly. The rinderpest is still working its ravages in Bechuanaland. Ivhama, the chief, has lost 100,000 head of cattle by the disease. Pertobia, May 27. Barney Barnato, believing that it is the intention of the Transvaal authorities to release the members of the Reform Committee, has decided not to sell his mines, and proceeds to work them. President liruger, fearing that the Uitlanders are organising further plots, has increased his house guard. The police are unable to arrest the feeling in Pretoria against the Government, which has become intense, and disquietude prevails in the c-ity. Dr Leyds, Secretary of State, is guarded by constables.
