The sentences of the four leaders of the Johannesburg revolt have been commuted from life to fifteen years' imprisonment, but it is heped that this will be further modified. The Executive at Pretoria have decided on the following sentences oil members of the Reform Committee : Eight to be discharged ; four have received a years' imprisonment; nineteen three months ; eighteen directed to re-petition in five months ; and four for refusing to petition had their sentences maintained. All the fines imposed are to be enforced, but banishment from the country is suspended if the prisoners agree not to engage in politics. ~K Sir Hercules Robinson wires that the sentences passed on the four leaders are only a matter of form, and will be revised shortly.
