— - ANOTHER MEETING TO BE HELL). A SETTLEMENT LIKELY TO BE ARRIVED AT. Syi'ney, May 21. At a conference of southern coal owners antl miners a mutual agreement was adopted under which the miners receive a quarter of an advance in the prices of coal sold over existing contracts from May Ist eluring the continuance of the Newcastle strike. Newcastle, May 21. The miners' delegates held a protracted sitting with closed doors to discuss the strike. They meet again to-day. The Colonial Secretary wired that if the miners were prepared to reconsider the position the proposals of the proprietors were still open to them. It is proposed to hold a meeting of owners in Sydney in a few elays. It is understood that they have agreed not to enforce the proposed reduction in hewing rates, and are prepared to offer the miners the rates ruling prior to the strike. The delegates to-day will be in possession of the full text of the owners' offers, and probably arrive at a derinite decision.
